Software

Various computer programs have been developed by the Geo-Engineering Section which can be downloaded freely from this site. These programs can be used, copied and spread without any restrictions. No responsibility can be accepted for possible loss or damage due to the use of these programs.

Electronic Books

Several books which are in use for the courses in soil mechanics and soil dynamics are also available in digital form.

The soil mechanics book is regularly updated by its original author (prof.dr.ir. A. Verruijt) and available both in Dutch and English from his website geo.verruijt.net. The revision by dr.ir. Van Baars of this book is not electronically available and at the moment in print form only (in Dutch).

The latest revision of the soil dynamics book even includes De Hoop's inversion method and is highly recommended! For the latest version the books, the reader is referred to geo.verruijt.net Here also free geotechnical software can be found.

CT2090 Soil Mechanics

For the course in Soil Mechanics some programs have been developed to help with the preparation for the final examination. These programs require Windows '95 or NT 4.0 or better to run. For a description of the programs see the Help option of the programs. The programs can also be used as a training course in Soil Mechanics, for students of Delft University and for external participants from outside this university. Participation requires no registration, but students of Delft University will receive credit only upon submitting the final exit code.

Each program requires a personal identification code to unlock the test. The first code is obtained automatically when the first program solmex1.exe is started. Later codes are given by the program, after successful completion of the previous test.

Installation

  • Download the self extracting executable (3.0 MB).
  • Place it in a directory of your choice.
  • Start the executable soiltest.exe.
  • You will end up with 8 separate executables (7 tests and a slope stability program).
  • You will be given the first id-code once you start the first test (solmex1.exe).

Latest update of soiltest.exe : July 23, 2001

A demonstration test can be downloaded as testdemo.exe. This test consists of 10 problems and will print a personal certificate upon completion of the test.

CT3320 Groundwater Mechanics

The programs for Groundwater Mechanics are contained in a self extracting executable. The programs MSeep.exe en Pollut.exe require MS-DOS to operate. For a description of Pollut.exe, see the file Manual_pollut. The program GWTest.exe allows you to practise the computer exams. This program runs under Windows 95/98/NT.

Installation

  • Download the self extracting executable (630 kB).
  • Place it in a directory of your choice.
  • Start the executable b90.exe.
  • You will find the programs in a subdirectory named \b90.

Lecture Notes

The lecture notes for this course are available in electronic form on the webpage of Gerard Uffink.

CT4350 Numerical Soil Mechanics

The assignment for Numerical Soil Mechanics can be produced by the program NumGM.

Installation

  • Download the program NumGM (300 kB).
  • Place it in a directory of your choice.
  • Start the executable NumGM.exe to print the assignment.

OT4624 Offshore Soil Mechanics

The assignment for Offshore Soil Mechanics can be produced by the program OffSM.

Installation

  • Download the program OffSM (300 kB).
  • Place it in a directory of your choice.
  • Start the executable OffSM.exe to print the assignment.

Obtaining geotechnical data

Students of Delft University can obtain geotechnical data for the Netherlands from TNO-NITG. For more information, see here.
